Blogger No Longer Supports OpenID

Today's yellow bar announcement in my Blogger admin interface is that Blogger will no longer support OpenID. It includes a link to a post of theirs that talks about a lot more things that are being either retired or updated. Here is the exact text, including the link:

Blogger no longer supports OpenID. Existing OpenID comments and your OpenID settings may have changed. Learn more.

I have never had a lot of comments on my blogs. As far as I know, this doesn't impact me. If you are starting a new site, you probably don't really care too much either. You most likely will not miss what you never had.

BlogSpot and the GDPR

I love Google. I log into my BlogSpot account today and I have this notice showing at the top of all blogs:

European Union laws require you to give European Union visitors information about cookies used and data collected on your blog. In many cases, these laws also require you to obtain consent.

So, I took their advice on one of my sites and changed it to blogspot.fr (instead of blogspot.com) to see the notice …
